Day 2... Fleshing Out The Themes
Today we're elbow deep baby!
Time to get elbow deep into all the things you came up with yesterday and start making piles, drawing arrows, making flashcards, or even an old fashioned outline. I would love to skip this step because it makes me feel like I'm in middle school all over again, but seriously - this is so much FUN once you see it in action. Watch that video to understand how to do this step because there are so many paths to get to where this could go.
Find the themes in what you've got going on and start making piles or columns. Suddenly you'll see stories that you've already got in some areas, stories that don't fit at all (like me finding a whole new book in my pile) and areas that you want more stories in. This is where it gets cool because the more time you spend on this part, the less time you actually have to sit down and write. And when you do sit down to write, you'll know exactly where you are going.
This is the MAP to your writing. Don't worry so much about which section is A or B or C, just start making those piles and connections and then STOP...because this has a spiritual step too...
Step out of your brain for a moment and start writing this..."What will I learn from this book?" followed by "If I read this in my past, what would have really made a difference in my path?"
Now go back to those piles with those answers in mind and flesh out that book one more time with that fresh perspective.
